How to publish your website on your domain of choice

Let's quickly talk about what it means to publish your site on your own domain. 😉

What does it mean to publish your website on your domain?

  • Imagine your website is like a house, and your domain is its address. Publishing your website on your own domain means putting your house at its proper address on the internet. It's like inviting guests to visit you at your own place, rather than crashing on someone else's couch. 

    • What is DNS?

  • You know when you're looking for a book in the library, and you use the library catalog to find out where it is? Well, DNS is like the library catalog for the internet. It helps your computer find the right "address" (IP address) for the website you want to visit. So, instead of finding a book, your computer finds the right webpage for you to read or study!

    • Step1.  Log in to your account

    Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.

    Step 2.  Navigate to DNS management in GoDaddy

    Click on My Account near the upper left corner and select Domains under Quick Links.

    Step 3. Manage DNS

    Click on the kebab (three-dot) menu for your domain and select Edit DNS from the dropdown menu.

    Step 4. Add a new A record

    If there isn’t an existing A record for your domain, click the Add Record button and enter the following details:  TYPE: "A",  NAME: "@", VALUE: "37.27.11.100", TTL: "1 Hour". Click "Save" button.

    Step 5. Just a little waiting time

    After updating your DNS settings, it takes a bit of time for the changes to spread across the internet. This is called DNS propagation.

    How long?

  • Usually, it takes about an hour, but it can sometimes take up to 48 hours.

    • Why the wait?

  • All the servers around the world need to catch up with your new settings.

    • What to do?

  • Just chill and wait it out. Don't make more changes, as it will reset the timer.

    • Congratulations!
